Hey Folks,
Growing up in Anderson, South Carolina, I was raised to understand that what you believe doesn’t mean much if you don’t live it. Where I come from, folks don’t ask what Party you belong to before they help you change a tire on the side of the road. They don’t check your voting record before they bring over a casserole when times get hard.
They show up. They lend a hand. They do right by their neighbors, because that’s just what you do. That’s the South Carolina I know. And it’s the kind of spirit we need more of in Columbia.
I’m running for State Treasurer because I believe leadership ought to reflect those same values: honesty, responsibility, and looking out for one another.
I learned that at home. My parents, a public-school teacher and a clinical psychologist, taught me that taking care of your community starts with taking responsibility for your own house.
You live within your means. You hold yourself accountable.
You plan for the future.
And you don’t spend what you don’t have. You don’t waste other people’s time or money.
South Carolina can grow, and grow stronger, but we have to do it the right way. We must stay grounded in the values that built this state: hard work, common sense, and accountability.
It starts with telling the truth.
Every tax dollar that comes into the State Treasurer’s office represents somebody’s early morning, somebody’s overtime, somebody’s sacrifice.
That hits close to home.... it’s personal. And I won’t ever forget it.
The state’s money is your money. It’s there to serve the people of South Carolina, not to be treated like a political football, not to be used for some and not others, and not to be lost in lies, confusion or mismanagement.
I’m running because I believe in the people of this state. No matter who tries to divide us, most of us want the same things: a fair shot, safe communities, strong schools, and a future we can count on. We work hard, we raise our families, and we are building something better for our kids.
That’s not a partisan idea…..that’s a South Carolina value.
If you give me the honor of serving as your State Treasurer,
I will be honest with you.
I will be accountable to you.
And I will treat your future with the same care and responsibility I do my own.
That’s my promise and commitment to you.
I look forward to earning your trust, earning your vote, and continuing this conversation in the days ahead.
With gratitude and steady purpose,
Trav
